By:- JAGAT [27/Dec/2022] The Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Morigaon District of Assam near the Southern banks of the Brahmaputra River. It is home to a number of wildlife species like the One-Horned Rhinoceros, Asiatic Wild Water Buffaloes, Royal Bengal Tigers, Deers, Golden Jackals,Indian Leopards, Wild Boars, Barking Deer, Fishing Cats, Civets, Weasels, Mongoose, Chinese Pangolins, Otters, Rhesus Macaque, and many more. Along with these, itoffers a very good sighting of the One-Horned Rhinoceros much better than the more famous neighboring national park Kaziranga. It is a safe shelter for animals and birds where they are protected in their natural flares and in good and healthy condition. The Animals enjoy their freedom in the jungle as they get full space and live the way they want to.
Sprawled across an area of 38.85 sq. km., the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at 26°14′28″N and 92°03′30″E boasts of its unique vegetation cover consisting of at least 15 varied species of grasses along with trees and swampy wetlands. Also, it covers flat floodplains and Raja Mayong hillock. It provides grassland and wetland habitat to the endangered One-horned Rhinos. The Average temperature ranges around 36 degrees Celsius so it is favorable to wander around and explore the wilderness.
Home to a number of wildlife species like the One-Horned Rhinoceros, Asiatic Wild Water Buffaloes, and many more. It offers a very good sighting of the One-Horned Rhinoceros. Wildlife Enthusiasts rendezvous with wildlife will be very fruitful in Pobitora since they get to meet many wild creatures giving them an outlandish feel. Assam's Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is also home to more than 2000 migratory birds and various reptiles. It is also an Important Bird Area.
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is also a haven for migratory birds. With over 375 species of birds, as the winter sets in, the sanctuary becomes home to migratory bird species along with the other species of animals and birds living here. Apart from this, the presence of some exotic species of birds, reptiles, mammals, and amphibians also deserves a special mention here which are worth capturing once you are inside the sanctuary.
In addition to the fact that Pobitora falls within a small area and that rhinos live there, you can also see rhinos while you’re on a nature walk! Furthermore, a few couple of kilometres before the main gate of the sanctuary runs along the rhino habitat zone of the park where you can park your vehicle along the sides of the road to watch numerous local and migratory birds flying in and out and rhinos grazing in a vast open grassland area. Therefore, offering picturesque landscapes and good sightings, the number of tourists has gradually increased here at Pobitora after it gained fame. Moreover, travelers and travel agents have also made it more popular among people as it is a good dose of exciting adventure and travel.
