The wildlife sanctuary is primarily famed because of the thriving population of the Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros, after Kaziranga National Park which is also recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The one-horned rhinoceros, also known as the Indian rhinoceros, is a remarkable species native to the Indian subcontinent. Recognizable by its single, prominent horn and thick, armor-like skin, this rhinoceros primarily inhabits grasslands and swampy areas. With a population that has been steadily recovering due to dedicated conservation efforts, the one-horned rhino is a symbol of wildlife preservation in India and Nepal. Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 56 km east of Guwahati, Assam’s largest city. The nearest airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, which is well-connected to major cities across India.
